Michael Collins was born in London in 1961. He has worked as a television producer and journalist, and has written for various publications including the Observer, Guardian, Independent, TLS, Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Times. He has contributed to Start The Week, Off The Page, The Long View, Saturday Review, Women’s Hour for Radio 4 and Nightwaves for Radio 3. His book The Likes Of Us: A Biography of the White Working Class was published by Granta July 2004 and won the George Orwell Book Prize. A documentary based on the book, written and presented by the author, was broadcast by Channel Four in July 2005.
